North Square Barristers does not subscribe to the Pupillage Gateway. All our vacancies will, however, be advertised on the Pupillage Gateway website in accordance with the Bar Standards Board’s prescribed approach.

Once advertised, applications for pupillage should be emailed to pupillage@nsqb.co.uk* with a one-page covering letter and two-page curriculum vitae. All offers of pupillage are made strictly on merit, including intellectual ability, appreciation of professional ethics and potential in oral and written advocacy.

Pupillage

Chambers welcomes applications for mini-pupillage on a rolling basis. As a minimum requirement, prospective mini-pupils must either be enrolled on or have completed a BPTC programme (or equivalent). Applicants must complete the Application Form and submit to lee.mason@nsqb.co.uk, (subject: “MINI-PUPILLAGE”) by the relevant deadline stipulated therein.

Mini-pupillages are normally one week in duration. Whilst mini-pupillages do not form part of our pupillage selection procedure, they do provide prospective pupillage applicants with an introduction to a busy and successful set of chambers, particularly for those interested in family law. Mini-pupils will have an opportunity to experience the kind of work that we do (which is predominantly family law) – usually spending time with at least two members of Chambers. Please note that, whilst much of Chambers' court work takes place in Newcastle city centre, members of Chambers do also appear in courts in neighbouring areas (including Middlesbrough); mini-pupils are expected to arrange their own travel to court centres and meet their own travel costs.

Due to the highly private and sensitive nature of our work, successful applicants will be required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement before commencing their mini-pupillage. All offers of mini-pupillage are made strictly on merit, including intellectual ability and potential in oral and written advocacy.

Mini-Pupillage

Chambers welcomes applications from established practitioners or those newly-qualified, including those who have completed pupillage and are looking for a Third Six (Probationary Tenancy). Applicants should email lee.mason@nsqb.co.uk, subject “TENANCY” or “THIRD SIX”, to arrange an initial informal and discreet chat.
